Experience unique and adventurous attractions in the Overhill area of Tennessee. Tennessee Overhill is located just across the Georgia state line at McCaysville Georgia and includes the Ocoee River.
This scenic drive takes you in the Ocoee River Gorge and is the very first designated scenic byway in the the United States. Also known as the Old Copper Road, the scenic drive is located in the the Ocoee River Gorge where you can view whitewater rapids, whitewater rafters and kayakers.
Sugarloaf Mountain State Park
A brand new Tennessee state park,located at the base of Ocoee Dam #1, includes a scale model of the 1996 Olympic Whitewater Slalom Race Channel that is located upstream at the Ocoee Whitewater Center. Restrooms, picnic area, and canoe put-in. (423) 263-2632
Ocoee Whitewater Center
Copperhill
Home of the 1996 Olympic Whitewater Champions and so much more. In addition to offering paddlers the chance to raft the Olympic Race Channel, the Center also has an easy 1 mile hiking trail and access to over 40 miles of hiking and biking trails. A Wildlife Viewing Area at the Center is a hands-on outdoor laboratory-teaching visitors about diverse ecosystems and wildlife habitats. There are picnic areas, and light lunches and soft drinks are available from the Center food cart. Admire the Native Garden, swim in the “blue hole” or just dip your feet in the wading pools. Annual events include Kids Fishing Day, Tanasi Bike Festival, Smokey Bears Birthday and the Ocoee River Rodeo.
Hiwassee River Rail Adventures
Vintage trains on the Historic Old Line run along side the Hiwassee Scenic River, through the Cherokee National Forest, and then up and around the "Loop" in southeastern Tennessee. Excursions begin April 7 through November 25, 2007. Hiwassee Loop excursions will begin with a stop at the L&N Depot Museum in Etowah, Tennessee. This fify mile, three hour roundtrip offers breathtaking views of the Hiwassee River Gorge and the famous "Loop", where the tracks cross over themselves as the train climbs Bald Mountain. Copperhill trips will also be made on certain weekends. These ninety mile, six hour roundtrips will include the "Loop" and then continue into Copperhill, Tennessee, with a layover for shopping or dining in the historic copper mining town. Hiwassee River
Rolling thru foothills and small valleys this very swift river is very beautiful with heavy whitewater rapids flowing. The scenic drive along the southern banks of the river on highway 30 is a beautiful scenic drive.
Etowah
Visit this 1906 railroad town of Etowah, Tennessee. Take a tour the L&N Railroad Depot Museum or ride the Hiwassee River Rail Adventure train to Etowah, watch a show at the historic Gem Theater or shop for antiques in the shops.

Lost Sea
Located on Hwy 68 between Madisonville and Sweetwater, the Lost Sea is the world's largest underground lake. Designated as a Registered National Landmark, the earliest known visitor to the cave was a saber-toothed tiger, whose fossilized remains are now in the Museum of Natural History. A guided walk to the bottom of the cavern is rewarded with a trip in a glass bottom boat. (423) 337-6616
Copperhill
As you explore the downtown of this copper mining town, look for the stone steps that were built in the early days of the 20th century to allow miners to park their motor cars at the bottom of the hill and walk home.
Coker Creek Village
Try your hand at gold panning, take a guided horseback ride, drive to Buck Bald to watch the sunset, or browse through the nearby Coker Creek Crafts Gallery. A gravel road (FS #2138) near Coker Creek leads from Hwy 68 to a parking area that allows visitors to hike into Coker Creek Falls and junction with the John Muir Trail.
